A suggestion to continue to draw from life...

No matter what conceptual aesthetic, hybrid painting, or digital medium my students explore, I have always encouraged my students to draw from life. Drawing or painting from life has a way of grounding oneself and one's eye.

It is something I continue to practice and here are a few drawings:  the late Boris the Lion from the Dallas Zoo (when he was alive), a dead dragonfly found in my garden, a dead squirrel fallen from a tree, a dead crow from the side of the road, some summer phlox, an exasperated self-portrait and my Aunt's alive elderly dog.
